Library Director's Report - May 11, 2016 1. Our part-time Local History Librarian has resigned from her position with the Library District. We have appointed another part-time reference librarian to fill the position. 2. I have been working with our Children's Librarian's to plan the Summer Reading program for 2016. Our program will begin on Thursday, June 30 2016 and extend through Friday August 5, 2016. This year's theme is "On Your Mark, Get Set: READ. The Library will be hosting a series of special programs for children of all ages that help to promote literacy and prevent a "Summer Slide" or decline in literacy skills school aged children often experience over the school break. This year we have also planned a series of entertainment programs for families that will take place on Thursday afternoon's at 1:00pm. Pre- registration will take place in June and promotional newspapers will be sent out to all of the Elementary and Middle Schools of the Middletown and Pine Bush School Districts. The Friends of Middletown Thrall Library are a contributing sponsor of the Summer Reading Program promotional newspaper. 3. The Library hosted a program on April 28, 2016 entitled, "Meeting Your Guides and Angels" presented by Lisa Ann of Spiritquest Healing Center. Over 100 people attended this presentation and I have received positive feedback from attendees. 4. The Library hosted its third annual "Local Publishers and Illustrators Showcase" on Saturday April 30, 2016 from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Attendees had the opportunity to meet with local authors and illustrators, purchase books written by local authors and learn about the publishing industry. The morning session featured Children's authors and Illustrators and the afternoon session featured authors and illustrators who publish materials for adults. I extend my thanks to local author Marianne Sciucco who has been instrumental in helping to coordinate this event since its inception. I have attended the following meetings in April, Friends of Middletown Thrall Library, RCLS Director's Association Executive Committee, Governor's 2016 State Budget Presentation, RCLS Continuing Education Advisory Committee Meeting, Local Authors and Illustrators Showcase and Thrall Library Staff Meeting
