AT LEFT: Pronk's Drug Score at the corner of North and East Main Streets, long known as "Pronk's Comer." This was the site of Lydia Smith's 'ginger cake and beer saloon from about 1812 10 1822. At that time, Stacy Beakes sold his store on the corner of North and West
Main Streets, and built a new store on the saloon site in 1823. The okl building was tom down about 1923 and the present building, now housing a drug store, was erected, Photo taken ¢1922 by John H, Tuthill.

AT LEFT: June 1923 photo of the corner of North and West Main Streets, long known as *"Denton Corner." after Samuel Denton. It was in 1815 that Stacy Beakes and George Hill purchased this store from Hector Craig and opened general store. Beakes opened Middletown's first post office in his store in 1816. In 1822, Denon purchased the store. Continuing in business until 1856. The building was tom down in 1926 and the present structure erected.
