AT LEFT: Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, West Main Street. On Christmas Eve, 1926, the first Mass was celebrated at Mount Carmel. Original plans for a second story were later abandoned. The photo was taken in 1930. BELOW: Dr. Joshua Draper's home (later Stivers') was built in 1873 at 70 Highland Avenue, Cornelius J. Sloat was the architect. The photo is c1892. LOWER PHOTO: The Seventh-Day Adventist Church was formally organized in 1895. After meeting in various places, they purchased the Old School Baptist Church on Roberts Street in 1931. In about 1958, the old Draper house was demolished and the present church erected in 1961, (1979 photo by Peter Laskaris).
