Building & Grounds: Ms. Lange reported on Building & Grounds.
The library has experienced significant interruptions in our public internet during the last
two weeks of April. Some of these service interruptions lasted for hours at a time. Each
time the internet was lost, a call was made to Warwick Valley Telecommunications/
Alteva to report the problem and to ask for restoration service. Our understanding is that
the problem occurred as a result of equipment failure leading to poor signal strength
entering the building. It is also suspected that the work being done as part of the
abatement project on Union Street also had a negative impact on the signal coming into
the building. We are currently investigating equipment upgrades that will provide a
stronger and more stable internet connection for our public computers. We are currently
experiencing no interruptions in our internet service.
Repairs have been completed for both of the backflow units. Both systems are now
working properly.
On Saturday evening May 7th after closing, we were notified by our alarm monitoring
service that there was a water leak in the basement of the library. Our Administrative
Assistant came to the library to investigate and determined that no leak was visible. On
Sunday afternoon, staff reported a water leak in the public restroom area of the library's
first floor. Our alarm company was notified and a repairman was present at the library to
complete repairs to the sprinkler system on Monday, May 9th, 2016.
The exterminators have reported that there are no infestation issues anywhere in the
building.
