Searching the Search Engine

For a glimpse of what a search engine looks like, please click here. Don't try using it just yet - just close its window when you're done and return here to continue reading.

The search engine you just looked at is called Google, and it's one of the better search engines currently available. A "good" search engine is one that produces highly relevant results based upon your keywords. Google attempts to arrange its results so that the most relevant matches occur at the top of the results list you are viewing.

Search results should indicate, almost immediately, whether your search has been successful or not. For example, if you were searching for Middletown Thrall Library, the first few results should contain those words and the web site www.thrall.org. If your search results contain references to irrelevant subjects, you should carefully reconsider your keywords and attempt to be more specific.
