replacements for two staff members who had resigned earlier in
1941 and 1942. Even cosmetic improvements to the building's
interior and grounds were mentioned in his reports. He held a
weekly radio program in 1942, and in 1943 a brochure was created
which publicized the library. In question and answer format one
question sounded almost contemporary. Question: Just what Is the Main Purpose of My Public
Library?

To obtain the right book for the right person at the right time for study, information or recreation - to be a means of socializing and a source of inspiration in its community."
In the Annual Library Report of 1943 p. [6], it was noted that Helen Ludlow had been appointed Library Director because of
the resignation of Mr. Rockwell to take another position. 72
Middletown City Directory for 1944 reported that Mr. Rockwell had
"removed" to connecticut. No further mention of Mr. Rockwell was
found in subsequent records.
