If You Have a Virus...

If you have a virus, see a doctor! If think your computer might have one, don't panic! Just because something isn't working right doesn't mean it's a virus. The only way to find out is by installing and running antivirus software.

If you don't have antivirus software, turn your computer off and purchase some right away. Do not turn your computer on again until you have the software in hand. Install the antivirus program at once and let it scan your system. With any luck you can eliminate the virus(es) -- if there were any at all.

Always brace yourself for the worst case scenario: even with antivirus software, your computer can get infected and you can lose valuable information. Having the software isn't complete protection: it only reduces your chances of getting a virus. Be sure to back up critical files regularly.
